When I try to insert a Blu-ray disc into my brand new Blu-ray drive and play it with VLC, I am prompted with an alert – “No valid processing key found in AACS config file on VLC”. I had already installed libbluray for VLC to Play Blu-ray content. So that is quite confusing for me. What is processing key? What is AACS config file?

I have done some research and found that VLC doesn’t support to play commercial DRM protected Blu-ray content and cos-protected DVDs. For Blu-ray disc, there are two popular privacy protections, they are AACS and BD+ (also called BD plus). That makes sense, the libbluray package can only help VLC to play no-commercial protected Blu-ray contents.

Should I add libaacs library to VLC?

I look into the official site of VLC – VideoLAN. There are so many projects, including libdvdcss, libdvdnav, libdvdread, libbluray, libdvdpsi, libaacs, libdvdcsa, and biTStream. Ya, you see it right? libaacs, it must be the one that I can apply to solve my problem. So I downloaded libaacs 0.9.0.tar.bz2 and I don’t know what I can do with, since you can find nothing about how to use libaacs library on the internet. Step 3 Copy KEYDB.cgf file into ~/Library/Preferences/aacs/ (create it if it does not exist).

Step 4 Right-click on VLC, choose “Show package contents” and put libaccs.dylib file in Contents/MacOS/lib/.

Now, technically speaking, you have got VLC on your computer play encrypted Blu-ray disc. Just insert a Blu-ray disc and launch VLC to play it.
